COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students on this performance degree are introduced to the foundations of physical, vocal, and conceptual performance practices. Through modules such as Embodying Theatre & Performance Contexts and The Physical Practitioner, they explore key artistic movements, practitioners, and techniques, developing embodied awareness and creative communication using the body and voice. Performance Texts introduces the creative process of generating performance material, laying the groundwork for building physical vocabularies and compositional strategies. Alongside this, Health & Wellbeing for Artistic Practice highlights the importance of sustaining a healthy artistic life, while Writing & Directing Performance offers a practical introduction to devising, directing, and collaborative making.These experiences support the transition into year two, where students begin to shape their own creative pathways. Modules such as Thinking Bodies in Performance encourage critical reflection on the body as both observer and maker, while Project Lab supports student-led creative research and collaboration. Technical and design knowledge is developed in Design In/for Performing Arts, with hands-on learning in lighting, sound, and staging. Meanwhile, Musical Theatre Practices offers practical training in singing, dancing, and acting, culminating in a public cabaret performance.In the final year, students refine their artistic identity and engage with professional contexts. Arts Research allows for independent investigation into the cultural and critical dimensions of performance, while Making Work for Festival Contexts and Arts & Social Engagement push students to apply their practice in socially responsive and professional settings. The two-part Lift Off modules bring together all prior learning, guiding students through the development, refinement, and final showcase of their major performance work. This course structure allows students to grow into independent, reflective, and versatile performance makers equipped for diverse artistic and community-based careers.
