In the first year, you’ll build a strong foundation in the history and principles of journalism through modules like Introduction to Journalism and Journalism Practice & Principles. You’ll also gain technical skills in reporting, digital publishing, shorthand, and broadcast production, while Introduction to Media Law equips you with the legal knowledge vital to journalistic work.In the second year, you’ll deepen your understanding of the media landscape and develop advanced reporting and production skills. Modules like Media Law in Context and Government & Political Context in the UK provide a framework for responsible and informed journalism. Writing Features and Broadcast Newsdays focus on practical, real-world journalism, while Digital Newsdays simulate the fast-paced newsroom environment. You’ll also explore media theory in Futures: Reading the Media, helping you critically assess evolving media trends and technologies.In the final year, the focus shifts to professional readiness and specialisation. You’ll produce a full magazine in Magazine Production and gain newsroom experience in Multiplatform and Magazine Newsdays. The Journalism Project allows you to create an in-depth piece of long-form journalism tailored to your chosen medium. Professional Practice in Journalism supports your transition into the industry, helping you build a portfolio and understand career pathways in modern journalism.
