COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of the tourism course, students are introduced to key concepts through a variety of dynamic and contemporary projects. Modules such as The Human Factor, Tourism for All, Influencing Tourism, and Tourism in a Changing Climate provide foundational insight into how tourism intersects with human behaviour, accessibility, marketing, and environmental sustainability. These are supported by Well Connected 1, which fosters student wellbeing and self-awareness, and The Research Skills Lab 1, where students begin developing their ability to conduct academic research. This initial year sets the stage for a deeper exploration in the second year, where students engage more critically with the complexities of the tourism industry. Destination Development introduces learners to the planning and strategic management of tourism destinations on local to global scales, while Technology in Tourism addresses the fast-evolving digital landscape and its role in shaping innovative and sustainable tourism practices. The second instalment of Well Connected deepens students’ understanding of personal wellbeing and its influence on professional performance. The Research Skills Lab 2 continues to refine students’ research capabilities, this time with a focus on strategic thinking and evidence-based decision-making. The Tourism Design Challenge adds a creative and solution-driven aspect, encouraging students to generate and implement innovative ideas with a sustainability focus. This is complemented by Managing Risk in an Uncertain Tourism World, which prepares students to anticipate and navigate the volatile aspects of the industry. In the final year, Tourism Futures enables students to explore forward-thinking ideas and trends that will shape tourism in years to come. The culmination of the course is the Consultancy Project, where students work in teams to solve real-world problems for industry clients, applying their knowledge, project management skills, and professional judgement. This comprehensive learning journey ensures graduates are well-equipped for the evolving demands of the tourism and hospitality sectors.
