COURSE CURRICULUM

This Interior Architecture degree provides a comprehensive and evolving framework that combines creative design, historical context, environmental responsibility, and professional development. In the first year, students are introduced to core design skills through hands-on projects, developing their ability to conceive and communicate spatial ideas using both analogue and digital tools. Theoretical modules explore global histories, spatial theories, and the environmental impact of human activity, while material studies introduce ecological principles and basic structural concepts. In the second year, students begin working on more complex projects that involve real-world contexts, deepening their understanding of how to translate abstract ideas into practical solutions. They explore the reuse and transformation of existing spaces, supported by modules that teach fabrication techniques and examine heritage and cultural values. The curriculum also includes professional development, where students learn about career opportunities, industry expectations, and how to build a strong professional identity. In the final year, students undertake a major self-directed design project that synthesises their learning and demonstrates their ability to work creatively and responsibly with existing buildings and communities. A dissertation complements this by developing critical thinking and research skills, supporting the theoretical grounding of their design work. The final professional module, Agency & Pathways, prepares students for the transition to the workplace or further study, equipping them with industry-standard communication skills, reflective practice, and confidence to navigate their chosen career. Across all years, the course combines design innovation, theoretical understanding, and real-world relevance to prepare students for the challenges and responsibilities of working within the built environment.
