In Year 1 of this Politics and History course, you'll build a strong foundation in political theory and historical context. Modules like Political Movements & Ideologies and Introduction to Governance introduce you to core concepts in political science, exploring frameworks that shape political debate and decision-making. Introduction to World Politics expands your global perspective, while Emergence of Modern Europe and Century of Conflict provide historical insight into key European developments from the Enlightenment to the post-Cold War period. You'll also examine how the past is represented in public contexts through The Public & the Past, equipping you with critical historical awareness.In Year 2, your studies take a more analytical and global direction. Britain in the World explores the UK’s foreign policy since 1945, including its evolving role post-Brexit. Decolonising Politics introduces critical perspectives on the legacy of colonialism, race and power in contemporary politics. History: Theory & Practice sharpens your understanding of how historians work and prepares you to develop a dissertation proposal, laying the groundwork for your final year research.In the final year, you’ll choose between completing a Dissertation or the Working With the Past Major Project, both of which allow you to focus on a topic of personal interest while developing independent research skills. You'll also select between two specialist modules: Policy Making, where you’ll examine how decisions are made and implemented within national frameworks; or Making Sense of British Politics, which looks at the key developments and challenges shaping modern Britain. These final-year options are designed to consolidate your academic development and prepare you for graduate careers or further study.
