COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students build foundational skills in both digital and traditional art through modules like Game Art Fundamentals and Introduction to Character Design. These are supported by theory-based modules such as Game Design Theory and Introduction to Environment Design, where students learn how to develop ideas from concept to 3D render, with a focus on storytelling, design process, and audience engagement.In the second year, the course deepens both technical and contextual understanding. Cultural Studies encourages students to think critically about games in a broader social and historical framework. Game Technologies introduces students to asset implementation and environmental design workflows using professional game engines. The Portfolio module begins guiding students toward a personal creative direction, helping them assemble a body of work that reflects their individual interests and strengths.The final year is dedicated to professional preparation and independent development. The Personal Project allows students to build a highly specialised portfolio with 4–6 polished pieces focused on their chosen niche, such as environment design or digital sculpting. The Industry Project simulates a real-world brief, helping students understand industry standards, pipelines, and client expectations. The Dissertation offers a chance to research a topic aligned with both academic curiosity and industry relevance, tying the whole degree together through critical reflection.This course would suit someone aiming for a career in environment art, concept art, level design, or asset creation for games or film, especially if they are more drawn to the visual and cultural side of games than the technical programming aspect.
