COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of the Fine Art program, students begin by developing their independent art practice in the Studio module, working within a supportive environment that includes individual tutorials and occasional group critiques. These sessions help students understand the dynamics of studio-based work and the value of constructive feedback. The Context module introduces critical and theoretical perspectives on contemporary art through lectures and seminars, encouraging students to reflect on the cultural, spatial, and curatorial aspects of art-making. Students present their work publicly and begin to consider the broader contexts in which art is exhibited and interpreted. In Workshop, students gain foundational skills through hands-on practice, research, and reflection, laying the groundwork for a long-term critical text that will evolve throughout the course. Year two builds on this foundation with deeper engagement in each area. In Studio, students continue to evolve their personal practice with increased group dialogue, encouraging peer-to-peer feedback and critical discourse. The Context module becomes more student-led, involving collaborative planning and execution of exhibitions while mentoring first-year students, offering experience in leadership and curatorial thinking. Students also write contextual statements to accompany their work. In Workshop, students participate in experimental projects that integrate theory and practice, using a variety of formats such as performance, publishing, or digital media to explore how art communicates ideas. They receive focused guidance on their critical writing, helping them connect their practice to wider theoretical and historical frameworks. In the final year, students refine and realise a cohesive body of work in Studio, preparing it for public engagement and professional presentation. In Context, they plan and deliver a public event that reflects their individual or collaborative artistic vision. The Workshop module culminates in a refined 3000-word critical text and a research-based project presented through a format that complements their artistic approach, showcasing their ability to articulate and contextualise their practice within the contemporary art landscape.
