Modules like Short Stories and The Novel provide a deep dive into narrative forms, introducing concepts such as narrative authority, plot structure, and critical theory. Adaptation: Textual Afterlives lets you explore how literary works are reimagined in other media, blending analysis with creative practice. Poetry equips you with tools to analyse verse from the early modern period to the present, developing both literary history and interpretive skill.In Year 2, the curriculum expands chronologically and thematically. The 18th Century: Revolutions in Writing covers literary innovation during a politically turbulent period, while The 20th-Century: Alienation & Dystopia explores how literature reflects societal anxieties and imagines alternate futures. Postcolonial Literature examines global voices in English, addressing the cultural impact of colonialism. Theory into Practice gives you a structured entry into literary theory, helping prepare you for independent research and your final dissertation.In the Final Year, the English Literature Dissertation (40 credits) is your opportunity to pursue a self-directed project on a topic of personal and academic interest. It allows you to demonstrate the skills you've developed in research, analysis, and argument over the course of your degree.
