COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this English and Creative Writing program, students establish foundational skills in literary analysis and creative writing. Contemporary Literary Studies introduces modern literary texts and critical approaches to understanding the contemporary period. Short Stories explores narrative structure, genre, and key concepts like perspective and plot. Writers' Workshop 1 begins the creative writing journey by developing original work through collaborative learning and exposure to literary and digital texts. Adaptation: Literary Afterlives focuses on how literary works are transformed into new media forms, encouraging students to create their own adaptations. The Poetry module familiarizes students with English-language poetry from the Shakespearean period to the present, fostering critical analysis and historical awareness. Writers' Workshop 2 builds on earlier creative work, expanding into forms such as dramatic monologue and short scripts while introducing relevant theoretical debates.In the second year, the Theory into Practice module deepens students' engagement with literary texts by applying a range of critical theories, preparing them for more complex analysis and interpretation.In the final year, students complete either a Dissertation or a Creative Writing Project. Both options involve sustained independent work guided by a supervisor, allowing students to either research a literary topic in depth or produce a significant piece of original creative writing.
