COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Education course, you’ll build a foundation for understanding educational systems, policies and practices in England. Through modules like Introduction to Policy Studies and Evolution of the Education System, you’ll explore how education has developed over time and examine key ideologies and political influences. Academic Self and Whose Curriculum? Whose Knowledge? will help you develop both your critical thinking and group collaboration skills, while Applying Educational Research introduces you to research and policy analysis. You’ll also complete your first professional placement, gaining practical insight into working with children, young people or families.In Year 2, your studies will focus on broader social, philosophical and global issues in education. You’ll investigate how factors like class, race, and gender impact schooling and explore educational systems internationally in Comparative Studies in Global Education. Research Methods & Ethics prepares you for your final year dissertation, while Professional Development 2 builds on your placement experience to further develop your skills and employability.In your final year, you’ll apply your learning in more specialised and practical contexts. Multi-disciplinary Working examines how professionals in education, health and social care collaborate to support children and families, allowing you to tailor your learning to your career goals. Professional Development 3 provides extended placement experience, helping you critically reflect on your personal growth and professional direction. Your Dissertation enables you to carry out independent research on an area of education that aligns with your interests, equipping you with analytical and academic skills for future study or employment.
