COURSE CURRICULUM

This Economics and Finance course offers a comprehensive foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and financial management. In the first year, students are introduced to key concepts in microeconomics and macroeconomics, alongside foundational modules in accounting and quantitative methods. Topics include market behaviour, economic growth, inflation, and government policy, as well as practical skills such as financial statement preparation and basic statistics. Modules like Introduction to Economic Thought encourage critical thinking by exploring diverse perspectives ineconomics.Inn the second year, the course deepens students' analytical capabilities through intermediate-level microeconomics and macroeconomics, as well as econometrics, where they begin applying statistical software to test economic theories. Students explore corporate financial decision-making, financial markets, and management finance, learning how businesses allocate resources and assess risk. Modules also provide insight into the evolving nature of economics through the study of contemporary economic thought and economic methodology, helping students understand how the discipline has changed over time.In the final year, the focus shifts to applying advanced knowledge to real-world and policy contexts. Students examine financial institutions and regulation within the UK, sustainable finance and investment, and the operations of corporations in financial markets. The public sector is also addressed through a module on economics, finance, and management in public organisations, highlighting non-profit and governmental economic functions. Together, these modules prepare students for careers in finance, policy, or research by combining theoretical depth with practical application.
