COURSE CURRICULUM

This acting course provides a comprehensive and progressive journey through the art and practice of performance across three years. In the first year, students are introduced to the essential elements of acting through two core modules. Acting 1 offers an immersive experience in fundamental techniques such as character development, voice modulation, physicality, and improvisation. Acting 2 builds on this foundation, encouraging deeper exploration of diverse performance contexts and helping students become more versatile in their approach. The focus throughout is on creativity, collaboration, and expressive freedom.In the second year, students move into more advanced and specialised training. The Actor Training module introduces both intra-cultural and intercultural perspectives, combining practical studio work with critical reading and written analysis to understand the social and political contexts of acting methods. Acting Project 1 allows students to work under a professional director to stage a full-length production, culminating in a live performance for an agent showcase and a reflective viva assessment. Movement Direction develops students' physicality using practices from global traditions and incorporates training for motion capture and virtual reality, promoting an embodied, technology-enhanced approach. Acting for Screen shifts the focus to on-camera performance, where students adapt their vocal, physical, and emotional skills for different formats including television, film, and games. Assessments include a solo performance, group scenes, and a directed ensemble piece, all captured on camera.In the final year, the Actor Training: Embodied Research Practice module invites students to use their bodies as tools for research. This involves studio-based exploration, academic study, and the development of an independent area of inquiry. Students may choose to investigate themes such as the body in performance, power dynamics in training, or actor techniques rooted in marginalised identities. The course prepares students to be thoughtful, adaptable, and skilled performers ready for a range of roles in stage and screen.
