COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Child Mental Health program combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research expertise to provide a comprehensive understanding of child and adolescent mental health. Core modules cover essential areas such as Developmental Psychology, which examines typical and atypical patterns of growth, and Neurodivergent Development, focusing on understanding the experiences and needs of children with neurodevelopmental differences. Students learn evidence-based approaches to working with young people through Practices in Mental Health Intervention and Treatment, gaining insights into therapeutic strategies and clinical applications. Research Methods in Mental Health and Understanding Humans Through Data equip students with the skills to design, conduct, and analyse studies, fostering critical thinking and the ability to evaluate evidence. The Research Dissertation offers an opportunity to apply these skills to an independent project, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical research experience. Understanding Child and Adolescent Mental Health deepens knowledge of psychological, social, and biological factors that influence mental well-being and development. Throughout the program, students develop the ability to critically assess research, implement interventions, and understand the challenges of working with children and adolescents in both clinical and research contexts. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, clinical practice, mental health services, and further postgraduate study, combining expertise, practical skills, and applied understanding in child mental health.
