COURSE CURRICULUM

The curriculum comprises core and optional modules. Core modules include Advanced Film Theory, which explores key theoretical frameworks from formalism to postmodernism; Research Methods in Film Studies, covering qualitative and quantitative approaches to film analysis; and a Dissertation or Major Creative Project, allowing students to pursue original research or produce a short film with critical commentary. Optional modules may include Global Cinemas, examining films from Asia, Africa, and Latin America; Documentary Filmmaking, focusing on practical skills in non-fiction production; Screenwriting, developing narrative techniques; and Gender and Film, analyzing representations of identity. Students can also select from related disciplines like Media and Cultural Studies. The program totals 180 credits, with assessments through essays, presentations, portfolios, and the final dissertation. Part-time students spread modules over two years. The curriculum is designed to build progressively, starting with foundational theories and culminating in independent research.
