COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Theoretical Physics program provides a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles governing the physical universe, combining rigorous mathematical methods with advanced theoretical concepts. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through core modules including Experimental Physics, Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, Physics Skills, The Physical Universe, and two Mathematical Skills modules, which develop analytical and problem-solving abilities essential for physics study. The second year builds on this foundation with modules such as Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, Mechanics, Variations and Symmetry, Properties of Matter, Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics, Mathematical Techniques in Physics, and a Physics Modelling Project, enabling students to apply theory to model physical systems and tackle complex problems. The third year focuses on advanced theoretical topics through core modules including Field Theory in Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Problem Solving and Sustainability, and the Theoretical Physics Group Project, encouraging collaboration and independent research. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as Cosmology, Space Physics, Quantum Technology, and Further Particle Physics, as well as opportunities for teaching and public engagement. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, computational, and research skills, preparing them for careers in academia, research, technology, finance, or any field requiring advanced problem-solving and analytical expertise.
