COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Theoretical Physics with Mathematics program provides an in-depth exploration of both the fundamental principles of physics and the advanced mathematical concepts that underpin them. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules including Fields, Matter and Quantum Physics, The Physical Universe, Logic and Discrete Mathematics, Matrices and Calculus, Multivariate Calculus, and Symmetry and Sequences, developing essential analytical and problem-solving skills. The second year extends this knowledge with modules such as Electromagnetism, Waves and Optics, Experimental Physics, Mechanics and Symmetry, Quantum Mechanics and Atomic Physics, Properties of Matter, Linear Algebra, and Real Analysis, emphasizing the application of mathematical methods to model and understand complex physical systems. In the third year, students focus on advanced topics through core modules including Field Theory in Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Nuclear and Particle Physics, and the Theoretical Physics Group Project, encouraging independent research and collaborative problem-solving. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as Cosmology, Further Particle Physics, Hilbert Spaces, Commutative Algebra, Graph Theory and Algorithms, Knots and Geometry, Mathematical Cryptography, and Metric Spaces and Topology, enabling students to deepen their expertise in both theoretical physics and mathematics. Graduates leave equipped with rigorous analytical, computational, and research skills, preparing them for careers in scientific research, technology, data-driven industries, finance, and postgraduate study.
