COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical Science program, students build a strong foundation across chemistry, biology and pharmacology to support their understanding of drug development and biomedical science. Core modules include Foundations of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Science, which introduces the principles of drug action, therapeutic strategies and the role of pharmaceuticals in treating disease. Fundamental Chemistry A and B provide essential knowledge of chemical principles, structures, reactions and analytical techniques that underpin the design and synthesis of medicines. Introduction to Biosciences offers a broad overview of biological systems, including cell biology, physiology and molecular processes, while Molecules to Cells explores the organisation and function of biomolecules within living organisms. The Microbes, Pathogens and Immunity module focuses on the biological basis of infectious disease and the immune response, highlighting the relevance of microbiology to pharmaceutical research and the development of therapies. Together, these modules equip students with the critical scientific knowledge, laboratory skills and analytical reasoning required to understand complex biological and chemical systems. This foundation prepares students for more advanced study in pharmacology, drug design, biotechnology and related areas, enabling them to apply scientific principles to real-world challenges in healthcare, research and the pharmaceutical industry.
