COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics with Philosophy program offers a balanced progression across both disciplines, beginning with core foundations and developing into advanced specialisms. In the first year, students build essential mathematical and philosophical understanding through modules such as Logic and Discrete Mathematics, Matrices and Calculus, Symmetry and Sequences, Probability and Statistics, History of Western Philosophy and Knowledge and Reality. This combination develops technical reasoning alongside critical reflection on fundamental philosophical questions. The second year deepens mathematical knowledge with core study in Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra and Complex Analysis, while optional philosophy modules such as Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, 19th Century Philosophy, Buddhist Philosophy and the Philosophy Guided Project enable students to apply analytical thinking to diverse philosophical themes. In the final year, students can shape their learning through a wide range of optional modules that span pure mathematics, applied mathematics and advanced philosophical study. Options include Graph Theory and Algorithms, Metric Spaces and Topology, Hilbert Spaces, Representation Theory, Commutative Algebra and Mathematical Cryptography, as well as philosophy modules such as Continental Philosophy, Philosophy of the Social World, Personhood, the Self and Ethics, and Philosophy of War. This structure supports intellectual flexibility, preparing graduates for careers requiring strong analytical, logical and argumentative skills.
