COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Real-world Systems (MARS) program provides a structured progression from essential mathematical foundations to advanced study of AI, modelling and system behaviour. In the first year, students establish core skills through modules such as Logic and Discrete Mathematics, Matrices and Calculus, Multivariate Calculus, Probability and Statistics, Symmetry and Sequences and Mathematical Modelling and Programming, building confidence in analytical reasoning and computational techniques. In the second year, learning advances into specialised areas with core modules including Mathematics of Artificial Intelligence, Applied Data Science, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Multivariate Probability and Statistics and Real-world Dynamics, helping students to understand how mathematical frameworks support AI systems and real-world modelling. The final year focuses on applying knowledge to practical and industry-relevant challenges through an Industry-inspired Project, where students work on problems such as climate prediction, disease modelling or cyber security. A wide range of optional modules allows students to shape their expertise, including options such as Mathematics of Generative Modelling, Optimisation for Machine Learning, Stochastic Processes, Statistical Inference, Medical Statistics, Dynamic Modelling, Nonlinear Systems and Chaos, Advanced Differential Equations and Graph Theory and Algorithms. This flexible structure equips students with highly sought-after skills in AI, data analysis, modelling and problem-solving, preparing them for careers across technology, research and real-world system design.
