COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, you will study core subjects including Genetics, Anatomy and Tissue Structure, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, and Medical Microbiology. In the second year, you will study some subjects in more depth and new subjects including Clinical Biochemistry, Cellular Pathology, and Medical Microbiology. In third year, subjects include Medical Genetics, Ethics in Biomedicine and Tropical Diseases. As part of our BSc Biomedical Science, you will also carry out a laboratory-based project, with support and guidance from specialist academic tutors and technical staff. The degree provides weekly small-group tutorials with a member of academic staff. Tutorials are an essential aspect of the Lancaster experience, helping you to get the most from your degree. Our research-active academics have links with prestigious organisations in the UK and overseas, including an active partnership with the North West Cancer Research Fund. We place great emphasis on practical learning, and you will have the opportunity to work with the latest industry-standard equipment in our state-of-the-art laboratories. You will gain hands-on experience of the sort of techniques that underpin modern medicine, such as processing blood samples, working with biopsy sections, and measuring hormone production in our biochemistry lab, giving you a real taste of a career in biomedical science.
