COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Theatre and Performing program provides an integrated study of practical theatre skills and theoretical understanding, preparing students to shape the theatre industry of the future. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through core modules such as Making Theatre 1: Acting, Directing and Collaborating, Raw Materials of Performance, and Living Theory, alongside Accessibility and Inclusion in Creative Industries and the Arts and Identity discovery module. These modules introduce students to performance techniques, creative collaboration, and the social and cultural contexts of theatre. In the second year, learning advances through core modules including Making Theatre 2: Beyond the Stage, Sustainable Practice, and Theatre and Society 1 and 2, enabling students to explore performance beyond traditional stages and understand theatre’s role within society. Optional discovery modules provide opportunities to engage with global challenges, cultural diversity, and professional practice. The final year focuses on independent and advanced practice through core modules such as Making Theatre 3: Advanced Performance Project and the Theatre Independent Project, allowing students to develop and showcase original work. Additional optional modules encourage exploration of performance criticism, artistic innovation, and socially engaged theatre. Throughout the program, students cultivate creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and practical performance skills, graduating with a strong portfolio and the expertise to pursue careers in acting, directing, playwriting, applied theatre, arts management, and other creative industries.
