COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Psychology and Linguistics program offers an interdisciplinary study of the human mind and language, exploring how cognitive processes and social contexts influence communication and behaviour. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through core modules including Cognitive and Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Neuropsychology, Foundations of Language, Language in Mind and Society, and both Foundations of Psychological Research and Introduction to Psychological Research. These modules provide a comprehensive grounding in psychological theory, research methods, and the principles of language structure and use. In the second year, the curriculum advances with modules such as Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Language Acquisition, Corpus Linguistics, and Experimental Methods for Psychology, alongside Qualitative and Quantitative Methods for Psychology, enabling students to examine language and cognition using empirical and data-driven approaches. The third year focuses on specialised and independent study with core modules including Cognitive Linguistics, Cognitive Neuroscience, Developmental Psychology, and a Psychological Dissertation, while optional modules such as Psycholinguistics and Language, Culture and Cognition allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests. Throughout the program, students develop analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, alongside practical experience in data collection and analysis. Graduates are prepared for careers in psychology, linguistics, education, speech and language therapy, research, and related fields, as well as postgraduate study.
