COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Politics and International Relations program offers a comprehensive study of global political systems, international relations, and the forces shaping contemporary governance. In the first year, students establish foundational knowledge through core modules such as Global Governance and International Institutions, Origins and Foundations of International Relations, Parties, Populism and Protest, and Policy Lab, with the Thinking Globally module providing a broader international perspective. Optional modules allow exploration of British Politics, Critical Perspectives on Global Politics, and Political Theory in a Troubled World. In the second year, the program deepens understanding with core modules including Reshaping Global Order, Theories of Power and the State, and Understanding Political Research, complemented by optional modules covering areas such as Authoritarianism, Global Capitalism, Global Superpowers, Politics of Policy, Politics of the Global South, and War, Peace and Modernity. In the final year, students focus on advanced study and independent research through the Politics and International Relations Dissertation, while optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in topics such as Critical Political Theory, Democracy Under Pressure, Security and Strategy, Policymaking in the Real World, Environment and Development, and regional studies including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Africa, Russia, and China. The program develops critical thinking, research, analytical, and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, government, policy, research, advocacy, and consultancy, equipping them to understand and address global challenges effectively.
