COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Hons History and Politics program offers students a thorough understanding of historical events, political systems, and contemporary issues, equipping them with the analytical and research skills needed to interpret and influence political landscapes. In the first year, students explore key historical and political themes, including controversies in history, revolutions, modern Britain, political parties, populism, and protest, while engaging with global perspectives and practical policy analysis through modules like Policy Lab and Thinking Globally. In the second year, the curriculum expands to include human-environment interactions, theories of power, state dynamics, and political research methods, alongside optional modules covering government leadership, policy, philosophy, rights, and global challenges, enabling students to develop critical perspectives on both historical and contemporary issues. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a Politics and International Relations dissertation, while optional modules allow them to specialise in areas such as Cold War history, democracy, policymaking, global politics, regional studies, and the impact of technology and social justice. The program emphasizes critical thinking, research, and practical understanding of governance, preparing graduates for careers in government, public policy, consultancy, media, journalism, and the heritage sector, while fostering the skills necessary to address complex political and societal challenges effectively.
