COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Hons History and International Relations program offers an in-depth exploration of the complex interactions between historical events and contemporary global politics, equipping students with analytical, research, and critical thinking skills. In the first year, students engage with foundational modules such as the origins of international relations, global governance, revolutions, and the modern world, complemented by a discovery module encouraging a global perspective. Year two builds on this foundation, covering topics such as reshaping global order, political research methods, and war and transformation, while offering optional modules addressing contemporary issues including authoritarianism, global capitalism, human rights, and information dynamics. The final year allows students to consolidate their learning through a Politics and International Relations dissertation and a range of optional modules that enable specialisation in areas such as conflict studies, global security, environmental politics, and the historical and political development of regions including Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Interdisciplinary discovery modules encourage engagement with pressing global challenges, technological change, and social justice, fostering practical application alongside theoretical understanding. Throughout the program, students develop the ability to critically evaluate historical and political sources, understand the forces shaping the modern world, and communicate complex ideas effectively, preparing them for careers in diplomacy, international organisations, policy analysis, research, and other roles requiring a nuanced understanding of global affairs.
