COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Hons Film, Media and Cultural Studies program provides a comprehensive understanding of how film and media shape societies, identities, and cultural perspectives. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through core modules such as Introduction to Film Studies, Media, Power and Identity, and Understanding Media and Culture, with optional modules allowing exploration of British cinema and self-representation in media. The second year deepens analytical and creative skills, covering global cinema, media theory, and cultural perspectives, while offering practical opportunities in screenwriting, short film production, and digital media. Students also engage with contemporary issues including gender, sexuality, sustainability, and social impact, developing both critical thinking and practical expertise. In the final year, the focus is on independent research and creative projects, with core modules in Critical Debates in Global Media and a Film Studies Independent Project, supported by optional modules that allow exploration of participatory cultures, documentary and experimental production, contemporary global genres, media industries, and emerging technologies such as AI. The program equips students with a diverse skill set that combines theoretical insight, practical production experience, and critical reflection, preparing graduates for careers in the creative and media industries, film and television production, cultural sectors, or further postgraduate study.
