COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Hons Criminology and Psychology program offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to understanding crime, human behaviour, and the criminal justice system. In the first year, students develop a foundation in cognitive and social psychology, developmental psychology, neuropsychology, criminology, and the workings of the criminal justice system, alongside research skills and optional exploration of justice concepts. The second year deepens this knowledge with modules in cognitive psychology, criminological thought, social psychology, and crime measurement, while also introducing practical insights into criminological fieldwork. Students can tailor their studies with optional modules covering topics such as contemporary crime problems, policing, financial crime, cultural diversity, global challenges, and neuroscience, alongside discovery modules to encourage creativity, innovation, and employability. In the final year, the focus shifts to forensic and criminological psychology, prisons and punishment, and a dissertation, while optional modules allow exploration of advanced topics including cyberpsychology, clinical psychology, gendered harm, sexual offending, green criminology, and the intersections of crime, media, and society. Discovery modules foster critical thinking, creativity, and engagement with social and global issues. Through this blend of theory, research, and applied practice, students gain a holistic understanding of criminal behaviour, the psychological and social contexts of crime, and the skills to pursue careers in criminal justice, forensic psychology, research, policy, or related fields.
