COURSE CURRICULUM

The Children's Nursing MSc is structured over two years, providing a progressive and comprehensive approach to developing the knowledge, skills and professional competence required for paediatric nursing. In Year 1, students are introduced to the foundations of nursing and healthcare, focusing on different client groups. Core modules include Applied Life Sciences for Nursing Practice, which develops understanding of human biology and health sciences relevant to nursing, and The Fundamental Elements of Nursing Practice, which covers essential nursing principles and techniques. Caring for Children and Young People with Acute Healthcare Needs focuses on managing illness and injury in paediatric patients, while the Practice Assessment Module Part 1 and Essential Skills for Nursing Practice provide hands-on clinical experience and practical skills development. Public Health introduces students to health promotion and preventative care. Year 2 builds on this foundation by emphasising the application of research, evidence-based practice and the management of complex care. Core modules include Contemporary Public Health and Community Nursing for Children and Young People, and Practice Assessment Modules Part 2 and 3, which further develop clinical competence. Complex Care for Children's Nursing and Leading Care for Children's Nursing prepare students to manage advanced care scenarios and develop leadership abilities, while Becoming a Registrant ensures readiness for professional practice and Nursing and Midwifery Council registration.
