COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the Structural Engineering MSc are designed to provide a balanced combination of advanced technical knowledge, digital skills and professional practice relevant to the modern construction industry. Students begin by developing expertise in digital technologies and construction modelling, gaining hands-on experience with contemporary software and data-driven design approaches. The program places strong emphasis on effective project delivery through the study of project risk, quality and safety management, ensuring an understanding of regulatory requirements and best practice. Technical competence is strengthened through in-depth study of concrete, steel and composite structures, enabling students to design safe, efficient and sustainable structural systems in accordance with current design codes. Foundation and substructure design focuses on soil–structure interaction and the principles required for stable and durable foundations. Advanced dynamic analysis and seismic design introduces students to the behaviour of structures under dynamic and earthquake loading, preparing them for complex engineering challenges. Alongside taught modules, students undertake a dissertation and research project development module, which builds research skills and independent problem-solving abilities. Collectively, these core modules equip graduates with the analytical, practical and professional skills needed to address real-world structural engineering problems and progress confidently in their engineering careers.
