COURSE CURRICULUM

The course is structured around four taught modules and a dissertation. The modules are: Historic Building Analysis and Recording; Historic Building Materials and Repair; Historic Building Conservation Philosophy and Practice; Building Conservation Law and Economics. The dissertation is a major piece of independent study on a subject of the student's choice related to historic building conservation. The course includes study trips to a wide range of historic buildings in and around London. Students will learn to analyse historic buildings, understand their construction, materials and significance, and develop strategies for their conservation and repair. The curriculum emphasises practical skills, including surveying, recording and analysis, as well as theoretical knowledge of conservation philosophy, law and economics. Assessment is through coursework, including reports, essays, presentations and the dissertation. The course is designed to meet the needs of those working in the field, with flexible scheduling for part-time students.
