COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of the Biomedical Science: Medical Microbiology with Management Studies MSc are designed to combine advanced scientific learning with practical management and professional skills. Business in Practice introduces key concepts in management, leadership and organisational operations, helping students understand how biomedical and healthcare services function within wider professional and business environments. Immunology and the Biology of Disease develops a strong understanding of immune system function and its role in protecting against infection, as well as how immune responses contribute to disease processes. Taxonomy of Microorganisms and Diagnosis of Infectious Disease focuses on the classification, identification and laboratory diagnosis of microbial pathogens, building essential skills for clinical and diagnostic settings. Research Techniques and Scientific Communication equips students with core laboratory, analytical and communication skills, enabling them to design research, interpret data and present scientific findings effectively. The Research Project allows students to undertake an independent investigation in an area of medical microbiology, applying both scientific knowledge and professional skills to a focused research topic. Together, these modules provide a balanced program that prepares graduates for a wide range of roles in biomedical laboratories, research environments, healthcare organisations and management-related positions within the life sciences sector.
