COURSE CURRICULUM

The modules of the Biomedical Science: Haematology MSc are designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and practical skills related to the study and diagnosis of blood-related diseases. Anaemia, Haemostasis and Blood Transfusion explores the causes, mechanisms and clinical management of common and complex blood disorders, as well as principles of coagulation and safe transfusion practice. Haematological Malignancy focuses on cancers of the blood and bone marrow, developing understanding of disease pathology, diagnostic approaches and current treatment strategies. Immunology and the Biology of Disease examines immune system function and its role in health and disease, highlighting the links between immunology and haematological conditions. Research Techniques and Scientific Communication develops essential laboratory, analytical and communication skills, enabling students to design experiments, interpret data and present scientific findings effectively. The Research Project allows students to undertake an in-depth, independent investigation in a specialised area of haematology, applying theoretical knowledge to practical research challenges. Together, these modules provide a strong balance of scientific theory, laboratory practice and research experience, preparing graduates for professional roles in biomedical laboratories, clinical environments and research institutions, as well as for further academic study in haematology and related biomedical sciences.
