COURSE CURRICULUM

The Urban Design MA at Kingston University is structured around core modules that integrate design practice, research, theory and professional skills, providing a comprehensive framework for advanced urban design education. Landscape and Urbanism Design Portfolio 01 and 02 allow students to develop and refine their design ideas through iterative studio work, fostering creativity, technical proficiency and problem-solving in response to real-world urban challenges. Masters Project serves as the culmination of the program, enabling students to undertake an in-depth, independent project that synthesizes research, design thinking and practical application, demonstrating their ability to propose innovative and contextually responsive urban solutions. Landscape and Urbanism Theory, Research and Representation equips students with critical knowledge of historical, cultural, social and environmental perspectives on urbanism, alongside skills in spatial analysis, visualisation and communication. Landscape and Urbanism Professional Practice, Process and Making focuses on professional development, project management, collaborative processes and practical implementation, preparing students to operate effectively in multidisciplinary and industry contexts. Together, these modules balance creative practice, theoretical understanding and professional competence, enabling graduates to tackle complex urban design issues with innovation and responsibility. The program equips students for careers in urban design, landscape architecture, planning, consultancy, regeneration projects and related fields, while also providing a solid foundation for further research or doctoral study in urbanism and design.
