COURSE CURRICULUM

The Product and Furniture Design MA is built around core modules that support advanced creative practice, critical inquiry and professional development. Designing Research introduces students to research methods relevant to design, helping them investigate materials, processes, users and contexts to inform innovative design outcomes. Creative Practice 1: Design Thinking and Making focuses on developing ideas through experimentation, prototyping and hands-on making, encouraging an iterative approach to problem solving and material exploration. Critical Practice strengthens analytical and reflective skills, enabling students to evaluate their work within historical, cultural and theoretical design contexts. Creative Futures supports professional development by exploring emerging design practices, sustainability, entrepreneurship and future career pathways within the creative industries. The Major Project forms the culmination of the program, allowing students to pursue an in-depth, self-directed design project that demonstrates their creative vision, technical skill and critical understanding. Through this project, students integrate research, design thinking and making into a coherent body of work. Together, these core modules provide a balanced framework that nurtures independent design practice, intellectual growth and professional readiness, preparing graduates for advanced roles in product and furniture design or further research-led study.
