COURSE CURRICULUM

The Creative Writing and Publishing MA at Kingston University combines core and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of both creative writing and the publishing industry. The core module, Create: The Business of Publishing, introduces students to the practical, commercial and strategic aspects of publishing, equipping them with knowledge of how books and literary content are produced, marketed and distributed in a professional context. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. Share: Strategic Marketing and Sales and Make: Content Development and Production focus on the promotion, marketing, and production processes of written content, providing practical skills relevant to the publishing sector. Writers’ Workshop, Ten Critical Challenges for Creative Writers, Writing the Contemporary, and Special Study: Workshop in Popular Genre Writing encourage the development of creative practice, allowing students to refine their writing style, experiment with genres, and receive critical feedback. The program also offers opportunities for independent research and creative projects through the Publishing Dissertation, Practical Publishing Project, and Creative Writing Dissertation, enabling students to apply their learning to substantial, self-directed work. Together, these modules provide a balanced combination of creative, analytical and professional skills, preparing graduates for careers as writers, editors, publishers, or other roles within the literary and creative industries.
