COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Science BSc (Hons) is structured over three years to develop a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles that underpin sport, exercise, and physical activity. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in human movement and behaviour through modules in functional anatomy, exercise physiology, sport and exercise psychology, coaching practice, and essential scientific skills related to sport, exercise, and nutrition. These modules introduce both theoretical concepts and practical applications, helping students understand how the body and mind respond to physical activity. In the second year, the course places greater emphasis on scientific analysis and research. Students develop skills in research methods, performance analysis, health and exercise physiology, and advanced sport and exercise psychology, enabling them to critically evaluate data and apply evidence-based approaches. The final year focuses on applied and specialist knowledge, allowing students to explore sport and exercise physiology, sport psychology, and biomechanics in greater depth. Students also examine sport performance and injury prevention and complete an independent research project in sport, exercise, or nutrition science. Professional development and employability are supported through future skills modules. Graduates complete the course with strong analytical, practical, and research skills, preparing them for careers in sport, exercise, health, and fitness industries or for further postgraduate study.
