COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Science (Nutrition) BSc (Hons) is structured over three years to develop a strong scientific understanding of nutrition in relation to sport, exercise, and health. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental concepts of food and nutrition, human anatomy, exercise physiology, and sport and exercise psychology, alongside the essential principles of scientific investigation. These modules build a solid foundation in biological and psychological sciences relevant to nutrition and physical activity. In the second year, learning advances to examine the effects of nutrition, sport, and exercise on human physiology and exercise prescription. Students study energy metabolism, health and exercise physiology, and sport and exercise psychology in greater depth, while a research methods module prepares them for independent research in the final year. Students choosing the four-year sandwich route have the opportunity to gain valuable industry-related work experience between the second and third years. In the final year, students apply their knowledge to areas such as sport nutrition, public health nutrition, and the role of nutrition in health and disease, alongside psychological aspects of exercise and wellbeing. An independent research project allows students to investigate a topic of interest within nutrition, exercise, or health science, preparing graduates for professional practice or further study.
