COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport and Exercise Science (Coaching and Physical Education) BSc (Hons) is structured over three years to develop strong theoretical knowledge, practical coaching skills, and scientific understanding. In the first year, students are introduced to the theory and practice of effective coaching and leadership through practical-based learning. They explore sport as an academic discipline while gaining foundational knowledge in sport and exercise psychology, including motivation and personality, alongside human physiology, functional anatomy, and biomechanics. Core modules also introduce the principles of scientific investigation, building essential academic and analytical skills. In the second year, the course expands into performance analysis in sport, with further practical work in sport analysis and deeper study of physiology and psychology. Students engage with contemporary issues in sport coaching, develop reflective leadership practices, and study research methods in physical activity, preparing them for independent research in the final year. The final year focuses on advanced application and professional practice. Students gain further experience through coaching practice, develop advanced analytical skills in performance analysis, and extend their knowledge in areas such as sport psychology, physiology, or biomechanics based on their interests. All students complete an independent research project related to coaching, physical education, or sport analysis, graduating with the skills needed for coaching, education, and sport science careers.
