COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Criminology BSc (Hons) is structured over three years to provide a balanced understanding of psychological science and criminology, alongside strong research and analytical skills. In the first year, students build a broad foundation in key psychological and criminological theories, exploring historical perspectives, contemporary issues, and core ideas in both disciplines. Modules such as Introduction to Psychology, Approaches and Professional Skills in Psychology, Psychology Research Methods 1, and Foundations in Criminological Theory introduce students to psychological research strategies and criminological thinking. In the second year, the course develops a deeper understanding of crime and justice, alongside advances in psychological theory and research. Students examine policing, punishment, and probation systems, study the links between brain function, cognition, and behaviour, and expand their knowledge of social and developmental psychology. Research skills are strengthened through experimental design and inferential statistics in Psychology Research Methods 2. In the final year, students tailor their studies through optional modules while completing an independent psychology research project. Core topics include personality and individual differences, transnational crime, and future-focused professional skills, with options such as forensic psychology, health and wellbeing, or applied psychology with work experience. This structure prepares graduates for further study or careers in psychology, criminology, and criminal justice-related fields.
