COURSE CURRICULUM

The Game Development degree provides a structured progression through the technical and creative foundations of modern game creation, developing both programming expertise and professional practice. In Year 1, students are introduced to core game development principles, focusing on programming skills, game science, and the prototyping of original ideas. They gain experience in 2D and 3D game development using C++ and C#, while also learning essential computing concepts such as requirements analysis and design for games programming. Year 2 builds on this foundation by introducing industry-standard engines including Unity and Unreal, alongside advanced development in C++, C#, 3D graphics, and Blueprint scripting. Students learn to integrate artificial intelligence into a range of game genres, from real-time strategy and racing to educational games, supported by deeper computer science knowledge such as computing systems, parallel processing, neural networks, and large language models. An optional professional placement year offers valuable industry experience. In Year 3, students work in agile, multidisciplinary teams to develop, test, and publish a complete game for public platforms. They also explore multiplayer and console development, generative AI for rapid prototyping, and complete an individual capstone project. Graduates emerge with strong technical skills, teamwork experience, and a professional portfolio.
