COURSE CURRICULUM

The Financial Economics BSc (Hons) is structured to build a strong and progressive understanding of economic theory, financial systems, and applied analysis across three years of study. In Year 1, students gain a historical and conceptual foundation in modern economics, exploring key economic principles, policy perspectives, and the development of capitalism, alongside the essential mathematical and statistical tools required for economic analysis. Year 2 deepens understanding of microeconomics and macroeconomics, examining individual, corporate, and national decision-making processes while introducing mainstream and alternative approaches to economic modelling. Students also begin to explore financial economics through corporate finance and investment, supported by advanced mathematical economics and econometrics. In the final year, the course focuses on the functioning of financial systems, including banking, financial institutions, markets, financial crises, and regulatory frameworks, using real-world and historical examples. Students further develop research, writing, and professional communication skills by working as an economist on a specialist financial topic. Additional study in international trade, finance, and development economics broadens global economic understanding, while employability-focused learning supports career readiness and progression.
