COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Forensic Psychology BSc (Hons) offers a structured and progressive learning journey across three years. In the first year, students gain a strong grounding in the key theories, concepts, and methods that shape criminology and forensic psychology. They study core areas such as criminological theory, crime investigation, the workings of the criminal justice system, and the foundations of forensic psychology, while also developing essential research skills. In the second year, the course explores more specialised themes, including the relationship between mental health and criminal behaviour, and the role of policing, prisons, and probation in crime control. Students also examine the influence of media and culture on crime and learn how different criminological approaches shape research into social problems. The final year focuses on global and contemporary issues such as transnational crime, terrorism, and cyber-behaviour. Students study investigative psychology, including interviewing, profiling, identification, and decision-making, alongside key topics in risk and justice. To tailor their learning, they can choose between completing a criminology dissertation or taking an applied social science module. Overall, the program equips students with theoretical knowledge, practical insights, and analytical skills relevant to careers within the criminal justice and forensic sectors.
