COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) at Kingston University is structured over three years to provide a balance of theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional development. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational civil engineering principles, including mathematics, engineering analytics, mechanics, materials, structures, fluid mechanics and soil mechanics. Emphasis is placed on practical work such as laboratories and model-making, while Future Skills modules like Navigate help students develop self-awareness, motivation and a sense of belonging, alongside an understanding of sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The second year builds on this foundation with Exploring, a module designed to enhance teamwork, communication and interdisciplinary skills. Students gain technical expertise through digital construction and Building Information Modelling (BIM), structural analysis, geotechnics, hydraulics, water engineering, engineering geodesy and GIS, while also studying project management and construction processes. In the final year, students focus on advanced civil engineering topics, including structural modelling and design, geotechnical and environmental engineering, transportation and highways infrastructure. The year also includes an individual research project and a major integrated design project, fostering collaboration and real-world application of skills. Future Skills Apply supports professional development, preparing graduates for employment or entrepreneurial opportunities. By the end of the program, students are equipped with technical competence, analytical ability and professional readiness for careers in civil engineering.
