COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Aviation Operations with Commercial Pilot Training develops both operational aviation knowledge and the foundations required for professional pilot training. In the first year, students are introduced to aviation principles, flight operations and human factors while gaining essential maths and physics skills needed for later stages. They also learn about aircraft systems, the theory of flight and communication skills that support effective leadership and cockpit professionalism. To progress onto the pilot training pathway, students must obtain a Private Pilot Licence during Year 1. The second year focuses on the specialised subjects required for the Airline Transport Pilot Licence theory, following either the UK CAA or EASA syllabus. Delivered in a modular format, these studies cover meteorology, air law, aircraft performance, navigation, operational procedures and general aircraft knowledge. Students are responsible for their own flight-training and CAA examination costs. Alongside ATPL theory, professional development helps prepare them for the expectations of the aviation industry. In the final year, attention shifts to the commercial and strategic operations of airlines and airports. Students undertake a research project and engage in group work focused on airline management. By graduation, learners are equipped with strong theoretical, technical and commercial understanding for aviation careers and pilot training pathways.
