COURSE CURRICULUM

The Midwifery with Registered Midwife BMid (Hons) course at Kingston University is structured over three years, with each year building progressively on knowledge, skills, and professional practice. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of midwifery through core modules such as Bodies and Birth 1, Social and Political Context of Birth 1, and Midwifery Profession and Practice 1A and 1B. These modules provide an understanding of the physiological and social aspects of pregnancy and childbirth, alongside an introduction to professional midwifery practice. In the second year, students deepen their learning with Bodies and Birth 2, Social and Political Context of Birth 2, and Midwifery Profession and Practice 2A and 2B, focusing on more complex clinical scenarios, evidence-based practice, and professional responsibilities within maternity care. By the third year, students consolidate their knowledge and skills through Bodies and Birth 3, Social and Political Context of Birth 3, and Midwifery Profession and Practice 3A and 3B, preparing them for autonomous practice as registered midwives. The course emphasizes a combination of theoretical learning and practical experience, ensuring students are confident in clinical decision-making, compassionate care, and professional conduct. Graduates complete the program ready to register as qualified midwives, equipped to provide safe, informed, and empathetic care to women and families across diverse healthcare settings.
