COURSE CURRICULUM

The Robotic Engineering and Artificial Intelligence BEng (Hons) is structured over three years to progressively develop technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence in robotics and AI. In the first year, students build a strong engineering foundation through modules in programming, microcontrollers, interface electronics, engineering design and manufacture, robotics fundamentals, and engineering mathematics. The Navigate for the Professional Engineer module supports the transition to university study and the development of professional skills, while an optional Formula Student AI Fundamentals module offers early exposure to applied AI in engineering contexts. In the second year, the course emphasizes hands-on and analytical learning, with a strong focus on designing and controlling robotic systems. Students complete a robot design and build project and study machine learning and computer vision, control systems, robot kinematics and dynamics, numerical analysis, and engineering project management. The final year focuses on advanced and applied topics, preparing students for professional practice or further study. Core modules include an individual engineering project, applied robotics and artificial intelligence, soft robotics modelling and simulation, digital signal processing, and advanced microcontrollers. Business awareness and employability are developed through applied business management and future skills modules. Graduates complete the course with the technical expertise, project experience, and professional skills needed to work in robotics, automation, artificial intelligence, and related engineering industries.
