COURSE CURRICULUM

The Working with Children & Young People: Social Pedagogy BA (Hons) is structured over three years to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills for supporting children, young people, and their families. In the first year, students gain an understanding of human growth, development, and life transitions while exploring ethical practice, diversity, and professional roles. Core modules focus on social pedagogy values and ethics, preparation for practice, professional contexts, and the development and social relationships of children and young people. In the second year, students build deeper social pedagogic knowledge, including understanding children’s law, rights, and safeguarding. They engage with modules on social pedagogy theory, children and young people’s rights and responsibilities, practice experience in local and international contexts, and interprofessional perspectives on safeguarding and support. In the final year, the course emphasizes professional readiness and applied learning. Students undertake further work placements, develop creative approaches to practice, and engage in a capstone project focused on enhancing the wellbeing of children and young people. Additional modules provide insight into professional systems, research, and relationships that impact practice. Across the program, students develop critical thinking, reflective practice, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Graduates leave with the knowledge, practical experience, and professional competence to work effectively in a variety of settings and positively impact the lives of children and young people.
