COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Actuarial Science and Management program provides comprehensive preparation for aspiring actuaries, guiding students through the core and specialist subjects required for exemptions from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the UK. In the first year, students take up to ten courses covering six Core Principles exemptions, including financial mathematics, actuarial applications, and life contingencies, with optional courses in economics, statistical methods, finance, data analytics, and climate-related risk. This stage builds a solid foundation in mathematical, statistical, and financial concepts essential for actuarial practice while offering opportunities to explore advanced topics and differentiate themselves to employers. In the second year, students focus on Core Practice and Specialist Principles exemptions, including mandatory courses in actuarial risk management and a dissertation, alongside optional courses such as life and general insurance, derivatives, pensions, finance, and machine learning for risk and insurance. The program emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, integrating data analysis, risk modelling, and predictive techniques. By combining rigorous training in traditional actuarial science with modern, data-driven approaches, students develop the expertise required to succeed in diverse sectors, including insurance, pensions, investment, fund management, and regulatory bodies, ensuring they are well-equipped for a rewarding actuarial career.
