COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Translating program is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in translation theory, practice, and professional skills. In September, students begin with mandatory modules in Translation Practice I, Translation Technologies, and Translation and Interpreting Studies, developing practical translation skills while learning to use specialised tools and understanding the theoretical frameworks of the discipline. Optional September modules, such as Subtitling or Liaison and Public Service Interpreting, offer opportunities to explore specialised areas of translation. In January, the curriculum continues with mandatory modules in Translation Practice II, Research Methods, and Introduction to the Translation and Interpreting Professions, which strengthen advanced translation abilities, develop research skills, and provide insight into professional standards and industry expectations. Optional January modules, including Liaison Interpreting for Business, Global Englishes and the International Workplace, Business Communication 2, and Project Management, allow students to tailor their learning according to specific professional interests and career goals. The program culminates in May with the MSc Dissertation, in which students undertake an independent research project or applied translation study, applying their knowledge and skills to a focused topic of interest. Overall, the combination of practical training, theoretical study, and industry-relevant optional modules ensures graduates are well-prepared for professional roles in translation and interpreting across diverse contexts.
