COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Toxicology program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of toxic substances and their impact on human health and the environment. In September, students take mandatory modules in Food and Beverage Toxicology and Marine Ecotoxicology, which explore the effects of chemicals and pollutants on human and ecological systems. Optional modules, such as Toxicology, Pathobiology of Human Disease, Technologies for Biosystems, and Introduction to Pharmaceutical Chemistry, allow students to broaden their knowledge and develop specialised expertise. In January, core modules include Research and Professional Practice, Regulation of the Safe and Sustainable Development of Substances, and Emerging Issues and Innovations in Toxicology, equipping students with practical research skills, regulatory understanding, and insight into current trends in the field. Additional optional modules, including Principles of Drug Discovery and Development and Human Diseases and Therapeutic Interventions, provide further opportunities for specialisation in pharmaceutical and clinical contexts. The program culminates in May with the MSc Research Project, where students apply their theoretical knowledge and practical skills to an independent, in-depth study of a toxicology-related topic. This combination of core and optional modules ensures that graduates develop a strong foundation in toxicology principles, research methodologies, regulatory frameworks, and emerging innovations, preparing them for careers in academia, industry, or government, and meeting the growing demand for skilled toxicologists.
